Loophole: Chiemi Shimada & Hansol Kim 22 August – 12 September 2026

A loop and a hole.

From the etymology dictionary, the word loophole came from a narrow slit in a wall, through which soldiers could shoot an arrow in battle. Now a loophole is a gap through which one can attack a system, or be left out of one.

Both meanings, medieval and contemporary, follow the same paradoxical mechanism of perception. A way of perceiving more, sharpened vision, seeing beyond by zoning into the smallest opening, a hole.

Chiemi's and Hansol's works remind me of this potential a loophole holds when it meets artistic practice, without having to serve arrows or legal manoeuvres.

And this is what I want to practise here, in my smallest circle.
